Sister, Sister, Sister So Fair!

18001_10203514038004051_201467678054096793_n

Happiest of greetings Pink Bubbles Doll Spa followers…if there are any of you still out there! I do hope so but I’m frankly slightly afraid I’ll hear nothing but crickets after such a long absence…but I’m posting this entry anyway!

I know my dears, it’s been ages since I’ve sat down and given you all a “fly on the wall – behind-the-scenes” glimpse inside these pink velvet and golden foiled flocked walls of Pink Bubbles…so let’s just jump right back in!

To come up to date with all of you, the spa is still very busy with clients constantly coming and going…almost too busy at times with no rest for the wicked or obviously any time for blog posts either apparently! Our staff continues to work very hard keeping this cruise ship afloat and all our Pink Bubbles guests looking their absolute best. By the way Vera, Daffy, Beatrice and Madge asked me to send all of you their love!

Speaking of staff, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the newest member of the P.B.D.S. family “Bunny” who’s come on-board as our official spa photographer…so big “Pink Bubbles Hugs!” to  our very own Bunny! Such a sweet girl who really knows her way around a flash cube I can tell you that! A long-time “shutterbug” Bunny happens to have been a former model herself whose infamous pin-up poses in certain gentleman’s magazines (which I’m sure none of you have seen but your husbands might very well have!) were quite the talk of this small community some time ago…but I in good taste refuse to bring up her sordid past as to keep her personal business private and rely on you to do the same! Bunny brings her “assorted” experiences as a model and her deft work handling a Brownie to the Pink Bubble’s table while working with our sometimes camera shy guests during their very own before & after glamor sittings featured on this very site! I do admit that most guests are hesitant in taking those sometimes god-awful “before” snaps but I must insist as it’s the only way to really see how far they’ve come in the looks department after completing their visits. I’m afraid it’s the price you must pay to become a Pink Bubble’s Girl or more commonly known in this town as a traffic-stopping eyeful!

To start off my hopefully “resuscitated-from-the-dead” posts, I’d like you all to meet the soon to be lovely Gabrielski sisters who flew in all the way from New Jersey!

Dr. Marcia, the eldest of the trio owns and operates her own very successful dental practice:

dsc08462

Middle sister Bobbi Sue is the dental office receptionist:

dsc08473

And finally the youngest Abby, the Dental Hygienist:

dsc08439

As all of you know very well I’m not one to repeat gossip…so you better listen very closely the first time! To tell the truth Daffy is really responsible for most of this information since as you know clients tend to spill at the wash bowl…it’s either Daffy’s skilled hands at “suds-ing up” or the effects of those ever-flowing Apple-tini’s she mixes up in the break room for our guests! Anyway spilled to Daffy and now spilled to you…

Now according to Daffy, Dr. Marcia decided to treat her sisters to this cross-country jaunt, destination Pink Bubbles for Christmas…what a generous Sis! Marcia is MARRIED with two perfect children, perfect business and of course a PERFECT BOYFRIEND (that’s right readers!) who is many years younger than she and works at the deli down the street from her office. She really wanted a spa make-over as she thinks her boyfriend Angelo is getting bored lately and has been making googly eyes at her sister Bobbi Sue!

Remember now, middle sister Bobbi Sue is the receptionists in Dr. Marcia’s office…that is when she shows up…according to Marcia/Daffy/Me and now you! Known as “wild one” Bobbi Sue has never really settled down and currently lives with three cats and two on and off again boyfriends…(Lord help her now possibly three!) Bobbi Sue said she wanted to come to Pink Bubbles because she is so tired of all the men in her life and wants to be able to support herself and the cats on her own. She really needs a raise to do so and thinks this is the perfect time to ask for one during this sister-bonding trip with Marcia…

Now Abby, the youngest is the sweet, smart, quiet one.  She’s the dental hygienist in Marcia’s office. Abby has lived with her boyfriend Sean for ten years now! Sean is very sweet…but there still isn’t a ring on Abby’s finger which is why she wanted to get away to the spa for a “new do” and talk with  her sisters on how to get Sean to propose! Heaven’s to Betsy! I swear I’ve seen this story line on “The Secret Storm!”

This is good stuff readers and just a small sampling of what we hear around here on a daily basis! Now we can’t solve our clients personal problems, all we can do is lend an ear, fill their empty glasses, make them beautiful and of course report back to you!  I don’t know how all this is going to end up but I’ve been promised an update from New Jersey once the gals get home so stay tuned…

For now let’s take a look at Bunny’s before & after portfolio of these “never a dull moment!” sisters:

First up Dr. Marcia Gabrielski:

Bobbi Sue Gabrielski:

dsc09082

Abby Gabrielski:

dsc08439

Will Dr. Marcia find perfect happiness balancing home, husband, children and toy-boy Angelo? Will Bobbi Sue find independence for her and her cats and reject the roving-eye of Angelo? Will Abby finally wear Sean’s ring?

secret-storm

Tune in tomorrow for the next installment of “The Secret Storm!”

Many thanks to Kathleen for booking her girls in to Pink Bubbles and inspiring this post with her wonderful bio’s of the Gabrielski sisters! Looking forward to hearing how it all works out Kathleen…keep our readers posted!

Till next time…stay beautiful dolls!

A Toast To Judy & Connie Champagne!

From the collection of Connie!

All dolls have secret lives as we all know. Here’s a peek into theirs…

Hello everyone and thanks as always for dropping in!

This weeks featured clients both hail from that great city by the bay, San Francisco!

Best friends Esther and Helen made a holiday out of it and took the train down the coast for a bit of shopping and sight-seeing here in Los Angeles for a few days. Now not only had they made appointments at Pink Bubbles Doll Spa for an upcoming special occasion, but they were also on a mission. You see, the girls are collectors, something I’m sure none of us can relate to at all…or am I wrong?!

031.1“Oh Norman, what have you done with the money for the new tires?!”

Long-time fans of the legendary Judy Garland, these two gal pals make a yearly pilgrimage to Hollywood, hunting for treasures to add to their ever-growing Judy collections. Local movie memorabilia shops can sometimes hold a hidden Garland gem or at the very least, an unseen 8 x 10 portrait of their favorite star!

judy-garland-779401971

Of course they always visit Judy’s footprints at Grauman’s Chinese Theater and never fail to continue their fun tradition of having their picture taken standing in front of the gates of M.G.M. Studios every year!

ChineseTheatreFootprints-JudyGarland

Their visit to the spa was of course also Judy related, how could it not be! The girls excitedly told me they had tickets to see “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” starring the fabulous Connie Champagne as Judy Garland when they returned home and wanted to look their very best…just in case they got the chance to meet Ms. Champagne after her show. Who knows, they might even get to have their picture taken with the talented songstress and if they did, they promised to send me a copy!

feinsteins

Still chatting excitedly about Ms. Champagne’s upcoming show, the girls started their beauty appointments with a trip to the back with Daffy who assisted them with their Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body of course!

While we wait, lets take a peek at what they looked like before they began…

Here’s Esther:

DSC04161

And here’s Helen:

DSC04180

When the girls returned I began with Helen as I instructed Daffy to give Esther a special treatment for her darkened skin-tone.

A reset of Helen’s brunette bobbed hairstyle was done and I followed with fresh applications of eyebrows and needed touch-ups of her shadow and ridges. Colorful lips and a kiss of blush brought much-needed color to her pretty face!

With the lightening treatment on Esther’s complexion a success, I re-styled her hair in the classic Swirl hairdo she’s worn for years…and why not, it suits her beautifully! I followed with all needed make-up repairs but chose to  leave her brows alone to keep them original. A pretty yellow hair bow and a pair of “Safety-First!” pearl earrings from Beatrice’s counter were the finishing touches. Of course both ladies had their finger and toe nails done by Madge!

I’d say both Esther and Helen’s trip to Pink Bubbles was a triumph! As they gathered their coats and said their goodbye’s to the staff, I shared in their excitement in seeing the upcoming show celebrating their favorite star in song and admit I felt a bit jealous! As they settled their bill with Vera, I wished them both a safe journey home.

They promised to try to get me an autograph from Ms. Champagne if they could as I too am a long-time fan of Judy and truly appreciate any artist who keeps the magic of Ms. Garland alive for us all to enjoy! The girls didn’t disappoint either, because within a few days I received a gorgeous lobby poster from the performance signed in person to me from Connie Champagne and I just love it! I really look forward to seeing these gals again next year here at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa!

Client Up-date!

Here’s a lovely candid of our Pink Bubbles clients Ms. Esther Smith & Ms. Helen Lawson at home sent in by Connie! Don’t they both look gorgeous!

Till next time P.B.D.S. readers, please enjoy this clip of the wonderful Connie Champagne as Judy Garland!

A champagne toast to Connie for sending her dolls to Pink Bubbles and for sharing her marvelous talent with us all! And of course another toast to Judy Garland, thank you Judy for all the joy you’ve brought to your fans lives these many, many years. You’ll never be forgotten!

Pink Bubbles New “Clients Of The Week” Feature!

Greetings Pink Bubbles Doll Spa readers!

I hope this weeks blog post finds you all doing well and that you’re enjoying the summer months so far.

The spa has been so busy with new clients coming and going lately that finding the extra time to post weekly is becoming very difficult indeed. Vera suggested that a “Clients of the Week” posting might be fun and I must say in a “time-pinch” like the spa is experiencing at the moment, I really like the idea. I’ll of course be sharing more “in-depth” postings with you as soon as I can!

Till then, here are some make-over highlights to enjoy of  just a few of our clients who answered the “Beauty Roll-Call” here at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa these past weeks…

All dolls have secret lives as we all know. Here’s a peek into four of them…

Beth, Ginger, Susie and Jo-Ann have been best friends since they were all kids. They did everything together growing up and shared a common passion for singing and making music. You could always find the four girls in the isles of our towns record shop on Saturday afternoons picking up the latest hits from girl groups like “Martha and the Vandellas,” “The Shangri-Las” and of course their absolute all-time favorite…”The Ronettes!”

RonettesColor

“The Ronette’s”…60’s Hair Heaven!

Well I guess it was just inevitable that the girls would form their own all-girl band in high school. Often dressing alike and wearing their hair in the same high elaborate styles just like their idols…much to the dismay of their Mother’s on some occasions!

Calling themselves “The Baby Dolls” they made the rounds of school dances, talent shows and of course our own county fair. Gifted with beautiful singing voices and with the unique addition of playing their own instruments, they soon gained their own following among our local teen set.

With jobs after school they saved up all they could and with a little help from their parents, were eventually able to cut a few singles. “What’s So Sweet About Sweet Sixteen?” and  “You bet I Would!” were even played here on the local radio station for a few weeks! Now I’m not really one for all that loud music as you all know, but Daffy would always run and turn up the radio here in the spa whenever their songs were played. I have to admit it…they were good! I even spied Vera, who claims she only cares for classical music, tapping her foot to the beat under her desk!

After graduation, the four girls escorted by some of their parents of course, took a trip to New York to try their luck and soon found an agent eager to promote their unique sound. With Beth, Susie and Jo-Ann on their electric guitars and Ginger’s deft handling of the drumsticks, it wasn’t long before they were booked on popular T.V. dance shows like “Shindig” and “Hullabaloo!” The rest I guess you can say is history. Local girls make good!

Now I don’t care where your going or where you’ve been, if you’re a home-town girl, all roads eventually lead back to The Pink Bubbles Doll Spa…it’s just tradition! The girls Mother’s have been clients of ours for as long as I can remember and of course their daughters always accompany them for a day of spa pampering whenever they’re back home for a visit. You can count on Daffy not wanting that particular day off if she spies their names in Vera’s book of appointments! In fact, we suddenly become the “hip” place to be with the younger set like Francie, Becky, Gidget and her best gal pal La-Rue on days like these!

Every girl, famous or not always leaves Pink Bubbles looking their absolute best. They may not arrive that way but they sure leave us refreshed and glowing! Here are some quick shots of how the “Dolls” looked when they showed up for their appointments:

Here’s Beth:

Susie is ready for a fresh look:

Jo-Ann’s “before” look:

DSC02331

As you can see, being in “showbiz” is hard on a girl’s hair! Hot lights, teasing, hair pieces and tons of hairspray can take their toll on your crowning glory. In the capable hands of Daffy they each enjoyed a good wash and deep conditioning of their locks, prepping them for their time in my styling chair. Needless to say, they wanted their hairdo’s to all be the same! The ponytail hairstyle was a perfect choice and is also a very popular and much requested look here at Pink Bubbles. Each girl wears it in her own unique way!

Next it was time for some fresh make-up. Each gal had her own beauty needs and the color palate was different for all four. Of course what’s a new look without a stop at Madge’s manicurist table! There, each girl was giving a nail polish specially matched to her lip color.

Check out their “before & after” pics below:

Picture1Picture2Picture4Picture11Picture10Picture11Picture5Picture6Picture8Picture13Picture14Picture15

Far from the stage lights and cameras, their wholesome “girl next door” looks are once again restored much to the delight and appreciation of their grateful Mother’s! Enjoy it Mom’s…well, for the moment anyway!

The girls and their Mother’s all with fresh make-overs informed us they were heading out to lunch next. I hope they don’t mind being followed by their “groupies” who had been hanging out in our reception area all that time, driving poor Vera nuts!

Of course we couldn’t let them leave without a request for an autographed photo for our “Wall of Fame.” They promised to send one soon. In fact, here’s a surprise we received in the mail just a few days later:

hair-babydolls

Oh my, I hardly recognized them! Not typical “Pink Bubbles” make-overs at all if you ask me. Cute outfits though…you can never go wrong with gold lame in my opinion! Oh well, I guess I had better “get with it!” as Daffy is always telling me. Music, fashion and yes hairdo’s are always changing with the times. Well maybe so, but I must admit it…I just love my own little time capsule here within the walls of The Pink Bubbles Doll Spa and I hope all my clients and readers do too! Come by and visit us anytime, you know you’re always welcome…but please do remember to book any of your gals beauty needs directly through our receptionist Vera, because as you know, she’s a real stickler about her darn appointment book!

Thanks Lavina for sending the “Dolls” to The Pink Bubbles Doll Spa! Our staff wishes them all much continued success and hope they’ll always follow their musical dreams!

Making Their Dreams Come True!

DSC01283

P.B.D.S. Clients – #0044 & #0045

From the collection of Greg!

All dolls have secret lives as we all know. Here’s a peek into one of them…

“Give ’em any chance they’ll take it, read ’em any rule they’ll break it!” is exactly how I would describe the next two gals who recently visited us here at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa!

Laverne and her best pal Shirley are actually tenants of our very own Beatrice who rents the girls the up-stairs of her duplex in Burbank. Originally from Milwaukee, the two best friends decided to throw caution to the wind yet again (which is not unusual for these two by the way!) and leave their dreary jobs and the smell of hops behind them to chase their dreams here on the west coast.

Now Shirley will tell you her fondest dream has always been to marry a doctor and trust me, she intends to make it happen. With a fresh start here in California and with so many hospitals in the area, she hopes her volunteer candy striper days will soon be behind her! Independent minded Laverne dreams of opening her own business one day, much like her Pop’s “Pizza-Bowl” back home. Of course, a little “vo-dee-o-dodo!” with a certain Troy Donahue runs a close second!

4868264“Vo-dee-o-dodo” worthy Troy!

Like everybody else though, till their dreams actually do come true they gotta earn a living! These girls will try anything once and their recent gig as professional stunt women is proof of that! In fact that’s how they ended up here at the spa, needing to clean-up after their turn as body doubles for a couple of cave women in their first foray into acting. Let’s face it, Hollywood can be a dirty business…just ask Daffy!

laverne&shirleyWonga! Wonga! Wonga!

As you can all imagine, being carried off in the claws of a prehistoric pterodactyl and then being dropped into its nest as intended baby bird food for thirty-seven takes can be hard on a gals looks!

Witness it for yourself below:

They showed up here at the spa not only exhausted from the days filming, but in desperate need of practically all our beauty services.

Take a look…yikes!

DSC01278

After their much-needed Pink Bubble’s Beauty Bath for Face & Body, they both had their hair washed and then conditioned by my assistant Daffy.

Shirley’s hair in particular was a matted mess and it took me a while to de-tangle her own “birds nest” she had going on!

DSC01258

Of course refreshed make-up was also needed for both girls. Shirley received touch-ups on her lids and then a pretty shade of coral pink was mixed and applied to her lips. Her complexion was a little pale so I add a bit of blush as well.

Volia! Shirley’s now pretty as a picture!

DSC01352

While Shirley chatted with Madge at the nail station, I turned my attention to her best pal Laverne. Her bubble-cut hairdo had seen better days as well:

DSC01243

She benefited from a fresh hair set with the addition of some pretty curls added to frame her face. She also needed some attention to her chipped lids and her eyeshadow was repaired as well. By special request, her lip color was kept the lightest of the faded pinks it had become. It’s a great choice for her I must agree! Her frosty lips were contrasted by a kiss of warm pink blush to the cheeks followed by her turn at Madge’ manicurist’s table.

DSC01389

Both girls were given Beatrice’s special forty-percent discount when it came time to select their “Safety-First” pearl earrings from Beatrice’s tray. The girls knew better than to refuse their landlady’s generous offer and selected matching sets!

Let’s take another look at the girls fabulous transformations:

Looking like brand-new dolls, the girls bid us all a quick goodbye and settled their bill with Vera. What a day these too had! Since they were both really tired, it was time to head home and get some much-needed rest. They’ll need it too. Shirley told us she was teaching Laverne to drive the very next day.

Listen up kids, take my advice and just stay off the streets…and the sidewalks for that matter!

Laverne & Shirley are once again on the loose!

Thanks again Greg for sending Laverne & Shirley to the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa! Keep an eye on those two!

“Saluto della dalla Svizzera!”

DSC09784

P.B.D.S. Client – #0042

From the collection of Roberta!

All dolls have secret lives as we all know…here’s a peek into one of them…

Saluto della dalla Svizzera! Il mio nome è Alina!” followed by a kiss on each cheek was the warm greeting I received from my newest client as she was escorted to my chair by our receptionist Vera. Not missing a beat, I took her outstretched hand in mine and answered back “Welcome to the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa my dear!” I immediately noticed that Vera seemed to be enjoying my unfolding communication dilemma just a little too much!

Jumping in to keep the coversation afloat, Vera suddenly said “Benvenuti Alina al nostro benessere! Come possiamo aiutarvi oggi?” to our pretty guest.

Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather!

“Vera, you’ve been holding out on us! I didn’t know you spoke anything other than English!” I said very surprised. Ma naturalmente!” she replied, waving her hand dramatically above her head, quickly adding “I mean…but of course!” clearly for my benefit. “I spent my entire youth traveling abroad!” she stated proudly in a tone that made it sound as if it should have been “oh so obvious!” “She’s come all this way from Switzerland to see us. As a matter-of-fact, I spent my honeymoon in Switzerland!”  she said as she smoothed the back of her stylish black hair.

“Was that your second or third dear?” I not so innocently asked. “Third!” was her curt reply.

Well, that’s our Vera! So full of…surprises!

“Anyway,” she continued, “did you know that four different languages are used in Switzerland? Italian, German, French and English. Alina and I are speaking Italian!”

Vera was clearly at ease in her new role as teacher!

“No Kidding!” I said. “Well?”  “Well what?” replied Vera. “What did you say to her?” I continued. “Oh…I asked how we could help her of course!” Vera said. And at that precise moment, my new client removed her stylish Pucci print head scarf revealing exactly why she was here to us both!

DSC09791

Sono venuto tutta la strada da Switzarland nella speranza si può ripristinare il mio bei capelli! Ho sentito i Pink Bubbles Doll Spa è il migliore!” she said looking at me as I stared back wide-eyed at her reflection in my mirror. Ecstatic to be coming to my rescue once again, Vera translated, “She says, “I came in hopes you can restore my beautiful hair! I’ve heard the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa is the best!” And with that, Vera turned and began to scurry back towards her desk to answer her ringing phone. “By the way, her name is Alina!” she shouted over her shoulder before she disappeared behind the frosted glass partition that separated her desk at the entrance from the rest of the spa. Peeking from around the partition, Vera gave me a quick wink and said “Good luck!” before disappearing once again.

Looking back at Alina’s reflection, I softly patted her shoulders and said “Well, I guess we’re on our own now Honey!”

Now I didn’t need any translation to know exactly what was needed in the beauty department for Alina. It was already clear she needed “the works” as far as her hair, but I also knew she would benefit from starting off her visit with a relaxing Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body. So I called in Daffy and handed my client over to her and spent the needed prep time laying out my hair tools. In any language, it was going to be a lot of work!

When Alina returned, I showed her my sample ring of hair colors to choose from and she immediately went for the Blond tones. “Perfetto!” she said as she pointed her choice out to me. It was the lightest of the platinum blond’s. “Perfect!” I said. “, perfetto!” she agreed with a big smile. Yes, we were gonna get along just fine!

Well, I won’t bore you with the details, but I will say after several hours in my chair, including a lunch break with Alina and the girls, I finished the hair process and then moved on to the styling. After thumbing through our latest issue of “Modern Beauty Shop” magazine, Alina chose a classic swirl style. And as far as her make-up needs, with a beautiful face like Alina’s, I knew any color palette would work. Again, using our system of communication, I just showed her the selection of colors as far as lip tones and blush, and she chose a pretty matching pair in coral pink. A bit of “Noir-Black” for her lids and the job was done.

When turned to the mirror for the final reveal, I knew immediately Alina was pleased! Turning her head side to side, I could see from her expression that it was a job well done. “E ‘perfetto! I love it!” she exclaimed. Rising from my chair she gave me the biggest hug followed by an extra set of kisses to boot. To prove her point, she took the Pucci scarf from her purse and gave it a kiss as well…a kiss goodbye, as she dropped it into my waste can. Addio vecchio amico!” she said, which I assumed was “Adios!” “Thank you, thank you!  Grazie! Addio miei amici!” were her parting words.

With another hug goodbye to Daffy and I, Alina stopped and settled her bill with Vera. The two chatted for a time, laughing and carrying on. With a final wave goodbye to us all, off she went.

What a lovely girl! I do hope to see Alina again. Who knows, one day I may get to travel…maybe even to Switzerland! Why not? After all, I now have a new friend who lives there!

Till then, “Arrivederci! dear readers, “Arrivederci!”

Please enjoy Alina’s transformation pic’s below:

P.B.D.S. Client – #0039

From the collection of Lyn!

All dolls have secret lives as we all know…here’s a peek into one of them…

This is lovely Mia, a recent client who came in for an afternoon of pampering and relaxation…Pink Bubbles style! She cashed in one of our holiday spa gift certificates given to her by her boss. She’s really earned it too as she holds down a very high-stress job as a secretary down at “Bickers & Bickers” law firm. You see, Mr. and Mrs. Bickers are the top divorce lawyers here in our town…in fact our receptionist Vera’s hired them to represent her in all three of her’s!

Now Mrs. Bickers is also a very loyal client of mine and visits me here twice a month for her lavender tint touch-ups. She really depends on me to keep her looking good in front of the judge! She’s such a doll…why just last week she told me that she and Mr. Bickers just celebrated their 38th anniversary…of the law firm that is! Yes, they’re divorced 31 years, but the firm continues to thrive so they’re still together every single day. You know, sometimes you just can’t get rid of man…no matter how hard you try!

According to Mrs. Bickers, Mia, her personal secretary, gets a bit frazzled at times handling all those squabbling couples every day out there in the front office. That’s why she’s treating her to this day of beauty. She’s heard Mia say more than once that she feels like “tearing her own hair out” sometimes. And that would be a real shame too as she’s got the most delicious brunette side-part bubble…a really rare hairstyle for sure.

Now I’ve had many gals come through my station sporting bubble-cuts of every color and shape (not to mention condition!) but Mia’s rare style is among the very few I’ve had visit me here to date.

Here’s a quick snap of a true “side-part” bubble-cut hair-do:

DSC07345

Mia requested a fresh wash and set of her hair and wanted to refresh her make-up a bit as well.

DSC07340

To soothe her frayed nerves, Daffy put on some soft music and assisted Mia with her Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body. Then on to the shampoo bowl where a scalp massage was part of the deep cleansing treatment, followed by a conditioner. Once seated in my chair, a comb-out, reset and style were all on the docket!

With her hair set to perfection, I tidied up her shadow and added a bit of blush. Her lips were also returned to their original coral pink color, that is after I removed some pink waxy lipstick that didn’t suit her at all.

Below are Mia’s amazing results:

DSC07454

Picture11

Picture9

Picture10

In the court of public opinion, and I’m sure Mrs. Bicker would concur, the case is now closed.

Mia’s been found guilty…

Guilty of “Glamour in the Third Degree!”

DSC07466

She Bangs!

All dolls have secret lives as we all know…here’s a peek into one of them…

This pretty gal came in this week for one of our complimentary Pink Bubbles Doll Spa consultations. She introduced herself as Elaine but asked me to call her Lannie, as all her friends do. Now when Lannie first took a seat in my chair I just assumed that it must have been very windy outside that morning as her hair, especially her bangs, looked a fright. But alas, it wasn’t the whipping wind that had done a number on her “do”, it was just Father Time’s way of saying “Girlfriend, your working a forty-nine year old hair set…make a hair appointment already!”

Obviously her main beauty concern was that her once sleek bob had become quite unruly, poofing out at the sides and that her bangs for some reason kept getting shorter instead of longer as the years went by. Odd, but true! She swore she never trimmed them, but they still kept creeping ever-upwards.

DSC08491

Now bangs aren’t for everybody, they do take a bit of maintenance. If you choose to wear them, they must be kept at the right length. Left too long, they look untidy and hang in your field of vision like a sheep dog, so you end up spending a good part of your day pushing them out of your eyes. Frustrated, some gals resort to hair barrette’s, clipping them up away, which is a cute look…if your name happens to be Skooter! On the other hand, cut too short, they look like someone (probably you) made a tragic hair trimming mistake “evening them out” and you’re now having to pay the price till they grow back.

Now Lannie still had all the basics for a great looking hairstyle. A classic American-Girl cut in a gorgeous shade of strawberry blonde. Though it did look a bit uneven to the untrained eye, it hadn’t in fact ever been cut…just needed a little Pink Bubble’s T.L.C. by yours truly!

The trick to a great American Girl hairstyle is all in the set. After a bit of time in the hands of my wonderful assistant Daffy, who made sure Lannie’s hair was washed, conditioned and tangle-free before returning her to me, I began the task of re-setting her hair close to the head. After that her hair looked quite a bit longer, including her bangs. A very light trim, just to even things out a bit was all that was left to return her classic hairdo to factory original standards!

The only thing left to do was add a touch of color repair to her shadow and lids and mix a special lip color of the palest of pinks for a light color-wash to match her wonderfully faded lips. A lip color like Lannie’s is like a fine wine in the fashion doll world…aged to perfection!

Take a look at Lannie’s make-over below:

Polished to perfection, Lannie’s hair never looked so good…well maybe it did in 1965!

So if you want to “go out with a bang!” ladies, this is the proper way to do it!

Automat Annie!

All dolls have secret lives as we all know…here’s a peek into one of them…

Annie’s a new client here at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa and we have Madge, our world-renowned manicurist to thank for introducing all of us to her. Now being in the nail business all these years, the absolute first thing Madge notices about anyone is the state of their manicure. She just can’t help it. I tell you your hair could be on fire and she’d be checking your fingers for chipped polish!

Now Madge always visits the Automat in the morning for a quick cup of coffee and a danish before she clocks in. According to her, she had just dropped a quarter into the slot for her pastry and was opening the little glass door to take it when the plate holding her breakfast suddenly began to slide inwards away from her! Now no one keeps Madge from her morning Bear Claw, so she gave the plate a rather firm tug back and out it came…with the server’s hand still holding onto the other side of the pretty jadeite green dish! Quickly letting go, it disappeared back into the compartment and out of sight.

Peering into the little opening, Madge shouted “You there! What’s the big idea…and what’s going on with those nails!” Reaching into her handbag, she took out one of her cards and placed it inside the compartment. Leaning in, she shouted “Come see me!” before closing the tiny door. Well according to Madge, not more than ten minutes later, a young girl clutching her business card appeared at her table where she sat finishing up her breakfast.

“Hi, I’m Annie.” the girl said. “I want to apologize about the danish…I was just trying to swap it out for a tuna on rye for the lunch crowd.” “Don’t worry about it Honey, frankly I’m more concerned with the state of your nails. I’m down the street at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa…you should come in. In fact, we have a special spa package deal going on right now that not only includes my services, but the works… skin, hair, make-up…anything you need. Come on by. Ask for Madge!”

And guess what? She did!

As you can all see, Annie’s nails were the least of her beauty problems! She did end up taking advantage of our special spa package which included everything she needed for her day of pampering. After her relaxing Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body, Daffy noticed and removed a broken earring post in Annie’s ear that had begun to corrode. Thankfully, the dreaded “green ear” had only just begun to form and she was saved from that fate in the nick of time! She then had her hair washed and deep conditioned, which was a good thing as it took quite a while to untangle.

I’m always amazed at how lovely a girl’s hair can actually become with a little effort! (Well, maybe more than just a little!)

Picture3cWith her pretty red hair returned to its former glory, I then addressed her make-up needs. For starters, she had no trace of eyebrows left at all, so I had to start from scratch, which is always a challenge. Shade and placement being key, I think hers turned out quite lovely. Next, I repaired her shadow and lids. Satisfied with these results, I moved on to her lips. A new application of red, mixed to match the remnants of her original shade, did the trick. And for a finishing touch, as always, a light application of blush. She then left my station and reunited with her new best friend Madge, where she spent the remainder of her visit just “soaking in it!”

Below are Annie’s amazing results!

Annie was so pleased with her new look that she promised to tell all her girlfriends about our spa. And as a very special thank you, she gave each of our staff five shiny new tokens each, good for anything our hearts desired that may lay behind the shiny glass compartments of Madge’s favorite morning stop, the Automat!

Thanks Annie, we’ll be stopping by soon!

Blending in!

All dolls have secret lives as we all know…here’s a peek into one of them…

Now I know there are some of you dolls out there who wouldn’t dream of leaving the house without your make-up on. It’s O.K. to admit it! Some have to have the whole shabang, while others at the very minimum wouldn’t be caught dead without at least a coat of mascara and an application of their favorite Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker. Mine’s “Orange Pop”…what’s yours!?

vintage-lip-smacker-ad

Hey, we all want to look our best! I’m in the beauty business after all, so I know all about it. Quick question…what’s the biggest beauty blunder you can make? I know, I know, there are a lot of them, and trust me I’ve seen all kinds pass through the doors of the Pink Bubble. In my professional opinion though it’s this…matching your foundation to your skin color as close as possible. Secondly, blend darlings, blend! Use a clean make-up sponge and don’t stop at the jaw line ladies, after all, your skin doesn’t. Apply a little foundation color to your neck as well. I’m sure you’ll all agree that there’s nothing worse than a white pasty neck under a tanned and blushed face, no matter how perfect the rest looks.

My newest client Daisy was a good example of not matching her foundation to her complexion. But Daisy gets a pass and I’ll tell you why…she was a little confused, and I can’t blame her! You see Daisy, a gorgeous #3, is a transitional gal. That is, she has the pale head and torso color of a regular #3 and the tanned arms and legs of her later #4 sisters. Ask yourself…what color foundation would you choose? Do you match your face to your torso or do you go for the sun-kissed color of the rest of you? What a predicament to say the least. Especially during those hot summer months when you have to wear shorts!

DSC08073

Well, the best advice I could give Daisy was this…embrace what makes you different and don’t cover anything up, just be yourself and show off both! After all, you’re a rarity, be proud of your place in Barbie doll history. You’ll find that very difference is what makes you special and probably the most interesting girl in anyone’s collection!

Deciding to take my advice, Daisy and I began our afternoon together starting as always with our recommended Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body. And boy did she need it! I’d guess Daisy may have been wearing her foundation for years, but with a little elbow grease it was all removed.

After a good session of hair prep with Daffy, who washed and conditioned her brunette locks, she returned to my chair for her comb-out, set and style.

Here’s a quick shot of her refreshed ponytail, before and after her hair session:

From there we moved on to her make-up. She needed some attention and repair work to her brows. Happy with the results, I moved on to her eyes, replacing the missing color on her shadow and lids. Next, beautiful new lips and of course a bit of blush. Gold hoop earrings were the obvious missing accessory and these of course were brought to us by the ever helpful Beatrice. Thanks Bea!

Here is a beautiful photo of Daisy’s results!

I guess the old adage “Less is more!” certainly applied to Daisy’s dilemma. Now, her two-toned body is her best feature. No need to hide it Daisy…you’re a special doll indeed!

A great big thank you goes out to Sue for sending Daisy to the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa! In fact she was so excited with Daisy’s recent results, that she wanted to share her with you all right away!
