Our clients of late have all returned home of course, but their fabulous before & after results remain in our files as inspiration for even the “poorest of things” to never give up hope!

Lets take a look:

First up we have a marvelous example of what a fresh head of hair can do for a gal. Carla’s Julia came in needing the works in the hair department and needless to say our staff agreed and got right to work…

A Baker’s Dozen For Holly!

Hello everybody and welcome back to Pink Bubbles!

I’d like you all to meet Holly, our latest spa make-over client. Now Holly’s as sweet as they come, in fact she’s just as sweet as the delicious glazed doughnuts I pick up every morning from the family owned “Hole-In-One Doughnut House” on my way in to work. I tell you we just couldn’t start our day here at the spa without them and heaven forbid if Vera doesn’t have her coffee and Bear Claw before the phones start ringing at her desk!

I was delighted to find her name as I scanned Vera’s appointment book and looked forward to seeing her in my chair at 10:30 that morning. Of course she came bearing extra tasty treats packed inside the pale pink box we’ve all come to know and love. It looks like my Playtex Living Girdle is going to have to put in some overtime this week:

Holly’s already a very pretty girl and unlike me needs no help in the figure department either! Her svelte T-N-T waistline is still intact which is amazing considering the line of business her families in.

Her mother Faye is also a client of mine and of course you know how mother’s are…she can’t help but keep me updated on her daughters social life. Quick over the counter reports are common as I pay for my doughnuts and even more detailed accounts while sitting in my chair once every two weeks. Now as you all know I’m not one to repeat gossip…so you better listen close the first time!

Now according to Faye, Holly has eyes for Steve…he’s that great looking delivery guy who drops off the flour, sugar and yeast to the bakery on Thursday afternoons. Well, today happens to be Thursday so by my own calculations Holly has to be out of here by 12:30 at the latest so she can get home, change and be back behind the counter by 2:00 looking gorgeous! (Not that I know anything about what’s going on with Holly wanting to be asked out for a date by Steve…I have always prided myself in minding my own business!)

Here’s Holly as she looked when she first arrived:

Starting off with all the right ingredients already, Holly I know will be a sweet vision indeed for Steve when I’ve finished…I’m just saying!

Daffy escorted Holly to the back where she began her treatments with our Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body. Her long blonde hair was washed, conditioned and re-set in the youthful style Holly loves. She requested and was given a pretty red hair bow, leaving me wondering what she was going to wear that afternoon for Steve…which is none of my business.

Her lashes were in need of some attention so they were tidied up a bit. I saw that her nose and chin were beginning to fade to yellow (which seems to be common occurrence with the younger Mod set) so a light color-wash was done that evened out her complexion. I soon discovered that little spot below her eye was indeed a beauty mark embedded in her skin and wouldn’t budge! Fresh eyebrows were next and were re-done in a pale blond. She also needed an application of fresh pink to her lips so I color-matched a shade just for her. A bit of blush repair ended my work and she finished her Pink Bubbles visit at the manicurist table with Madge.

Wow! What a knock-out!

Well according to mother Faye, a baker’s dozen of pretty pink roses were delivered to Holly at the “Hole-In-One Doughnut House” before closing! Of course they are now proudly displayed right next to the cash register, tended to lovingly by her mother who tells everyone who comes in that they were sent to her daughter. I saw them this morning and they are indeed lovely and smell wonderful. In fact, I noticed they were the exact same color as Holly’s fresh lips! I only counted twelve in the vase though…the thirteenth I soon discovered was tucked neatly behind Holly’s ear as she carefully placed Vera’s Bear Claw inside that very familiar pink pastry box!

There’s No Place Like Home Francie!

All dolls have secret lives as we all know…here’s a peek into one of them…

Long considered a “grail” to many collectors, this poor gal had an unfortunate bit of “Emerald City” green beginning to form on her lovely face. As reigning ‘Wizard’ here at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa, I took on the case though I wasn’t sure if I could help her or not. I knew of course I could handle her hair and make-up requirements, after all it says so right here on the diploma’s that are framed and displayed on the walls of my station. I just wasn’t sure about her green spots. I knew “These things must be done delicately…” as quoted by a certain green-faced witch Dorothy once had a run-in with long ago!

The Wicked Witch of the West’s unique complexion was not one Francie wanted to emulate!

Well, much like Dorothy, Francie ended up spending quite a while here in Oz, I mean the spa, as I tried all the different tricks I had up my uniforms sleeves.

Pay no attention to whats going on behind the curtain Francie, I’ll figure it out!

Well, tricks 1, 2, & 3 didn’t do a thing! I shared this disappointing news with Francie’s owner Victoria, who bless her heart, told me to do whatever I could to help her. Besides, I knew Francie like Dorothy, was getting homesick and wanted to go home already!

“I just want to go home!” Dorothy Gale cries. Francie shared the sentiment!

I still had one treatment left in my wizard bag…the Color-Wash. I never tried it on this darker skin-tone before and was a little nervous to have this particular Francie be my first as the results, good or bad, would be permanent. Well, my last choice of treatment turned out to be the best choice…it worked!

With the greening finally at bay, we moved on to the fun stuff…hair and make-up!

“Can you even dye my eyes to match my gown?” Of course Dorothy, this is the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa!

Much hipper than Dot’s pigtail’s, Francie’s signature flip style was restored with great results!

I then brought back the shape and color of her lips and did a light touch-up to her brows. She also had a small repair on her right eye. A bit of blush was the final touch, revealing what was there all along…a gorgeous girl who would be the pride of any collection!

Though her trip far from home was uncertain, it certainly paid off in the end! Once again looking factory-fresh, finally Francie is ready to hitch the next twister outta here!

Time to bid adieu to Pink Bubbles Francie!

Was it all just a dream? We’ll never know! At any rate Victoria, Francie is on her way home at last, at last…better than ever!

TWIST’N & TURN’N!

The year was 1967. Ponytails, Swirls, Bubbles and yes, even American Girls were shaking in their little plastic pumps. ‘Twist-N-Turn’ Barbie was here! Rumor on the streets was for less than a couple of bucks any of the afore-mentioned dolls could be traded in for the new model, ending up God knows where. Caused dolly nightmares across the land!

Well, being new, young and fresh (not to mention being able to twist at the waist) came with a price. With the title of ‘It Girl’ comes responsibility, after all nothing is free.

For all the blessings the new T-N-T had, Robin felt her new childhood friend should “pay it forward” long before any of us knew what that meant. Being the newest AND considered the best doll in little Robin Gee’s world meant you were destined to be “Goodwill Ambassador” to all her playmates that would visit. After all, according to Robin, a guest should always have the best!

Now it’s not fair to say Miss T-N-T could be had for the price of a milk shake. It was her job to entertain the masses, and entertain them all she certainly did! Passed through the hands of many, she definitely earned her keep.

After a long career in lets say “entertainment” this poor girl needed to freshen up a bit and Robin has treated her to a day at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa!

With her hostess days far behind her, T-N-T Barbie can now finally retire in style. With her fresh make-over, she can pretend it all just never happened!

(Robin, T-N-T Barbie says her original orange hair ribbon was taken as a “souvenir” by an overly amorous visitor in the 60’s. We have sent our new shampoo girl Daphie out to locate one for her before she returns home.)

Here she is folks, new for ’67 and 2013 – Robin’s childhood T-N-T Barbie doll!

Robin’s T-N-T earned a well deserved Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body. She had her hair washed and re-set. She had a color wash treatment to address some complexion fading. She also had a light touch-up to her lips.

Hippie, Hippie, Hooray!

I love playing music here at the spa during business hours. Softly of course! It sets the creative mood for our stylists, and if the proper tune is played, relaxes our clients. Call me old-fashioned, but classical music, feel-good pop tunes or any of my favorite country queens will do. Tammy, Loretta and of course, I will always love Miss Dolly! One type of music I will not play in the spa is that awful “Rock ’n Roll” that’s so popular with today’s kids. Give us a lovely ballad any day!

Which brings me to our next Pink Bubbles Doll Spa guest. Though quite an attractive, albeit, shall we say “earthy” girl, our new client arrived without an appointment, which by the way is a big no-no with Vera! On top of that she had one of those new portable transistor radios, which was blaring an awful tune sung by something called a rolling stone! Vera promptly confiscated it and turned the blasted thing off saving all of our eardrums. Forcing a smile, Vera said “I’ll hold this for you dear!”

Now, I’m all for young dolls choosing their own path, but when that particularly dusty trail leads you to such a state of disarray, I’d say you better re-think it! This wayward “Love Child” would be better off listening to her Mother and spending less time “rockin’ out” on her wobbly doll stand! To give the child credit, she did come in for some help, so there is hope! Though she dropped in unannounced, I knew there was a Mother out there somewhere that would thank me for my efforts, so off we went…

An over-due Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body was first on our agenda. Years of grit and grime were replaced by quite a lovely complexion. She had full, dark beautiful lashes, which were quite striking with her bright blue eyes. Then on to the hair department for a wash & set. A beautifully streaked blonde hair color emerged from the bubbles. As far as style, she wouldn’t go for anything fancy, she wanted it left long and free. She also insisted on wearing that nutty headband, and wanted no additional jewelry either, much to the dismay of Beatrice!

Though little effort was made, the results were monumental in my book! No longer a frightful hippie chick, she was now a very pretty doll. She was also very sweet and thanked me for my work as she adjusted her long fringed bracelet thingy’s. She then stopped at Vera’s desk to pay her bill and collected her radio. Turning it on, she turned to us all and gave us the peace sign with a new, lovely clean hand. “So long Grandma!” was her parting shot to Vera, who needless to say, was not amused!

This lovely “Live-Action” doll is all set to party like it’s 1971! She plans on meeting up with her pals P.J., Christie & Ken at the rock concert tonight. Won’t they be surprised how well she’s cleaned up her act! Don’t forget to tell P.J. and Christie about Pink Bubbles Barbie!

This groovy chick tuned out and enjoyed a Pink Bubble’s Beauty Bath for Face & Body. She then had her sunny blonde locks washed, conditioned and set. No need for anything else. Her original outfit, complete with hard to find fringed bracelets and flats was located and she was re-dressed as original. Now she’s practically good as new!

Attention! Nurse Julia, to The Pink Bubbles Doll Spa! S.T.A.T.!

This lovely R.N. stopped by the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa this afternoon for a quick touch-up. A spa regular, Julia had just pulled a double shift at the hospital and needed a little extra help to ready herself for a date with Brad later in the evening. She had a large box with her and excitedly showed me the new outfit inside. “It’s called “Candlelight Capers” what do you think?” “It’s a knock-out Julia, Brad’s a lucky fella!” I told her. She smiled and headed for the dressing room.

She returned wearing our standard pink and white spa towel. Julia treated herself to our relaxing Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body. She had her hair washed and re-set, then had her lipstick refreshed. Looking like a million, she redressed herself in her white uniform, grabbed her purse and headed towards the door.

“Julia, wait!” I shouted as I dashed back into the dressing room. Grabbing the large box, I hurried back. Handing it to her, I said “Don’t forget this!” “Oh my! Thank you!” she replied. “Well, what would dinner be without a little “Candlelight?” I replied with a wink. “We’ll see ya again soon Julia!”
“You sure will, but luckily not again today!” she said tapping the box. “Have a good time!” I told her. She just smiled and off she went!

Julia enjoyed a Pink Bubbles Doll Spa Beauty Bath for Face & Body. Her hair was washed and re-set to its original 1969 style! She needed her lips refreshed as well. Good as new!

A Trip To Teen Town!

You know it’s hard to stay a “Dream Teen” forever isn’t it dolls? I know, I’ve tried and it is hard! Damn hard! But I do try! It’s even harder for a famous teen doll like Francie, especially when she doesn’t look the part any more.

When I heard the beauty chimes go off in the entry of the spa, I knew my next appointment had arrived. I looked up and all but spit the bobby pins right out of my mouth and onto the floor! Standing there, right in front of me, was the remnants of the girl every teenage boy doll once dreamed of and every other teen girl doll aspired to be, Francie…Barbie’s MOD’ern cousin.

Now, let me tell you, this little chick had some attitude! She told me her Mom had FORCED her to come see me, but she didn’t need any of MY help. She was fine the way she was and her folks were a couple of real drags and needed to mind their own business! Well, her Mother had arranged this appointment and was paying the bill, that was true. I’d already been warned by Mom she could be a little tough, so I was prepared. It ain’t my first time at the “Teen Rodeo” fellas!

Aside from her shocking appearance from the neck up, something else was very odd and a little bit off about her. She seemed a bit too tall and busty for a girl of her age, but I did finally figure it out. After a few inquiries, she admitted to me that she had attended some wild “head-swapping” party with her pal Stacey back in the late 60’s. You remember Stacey, she’s been in for some work here at the spa. An older, more experienced girl, Francie’s parents forbade her to hang out with that “mod British bird” but of course Francie wouldn’t listen. Anyway, they did some crazy “body swap” dare and she never got switched back. Well, we took care of that real quick and though she didn’t want to admit it, she immediately felt and looked better! Admiring her new figure she said, “Now I can finally get back into my own groovy clothes! Coolio!”

I said “No offence Honey, but it’s going take a lot more than a cute little outfit to put you back on top.”

“You know I didn’t come here to be insulted!” Francie hissed.

“Really? Where do you go?” I quipped.

“Oh get off it! What kind of square are you? Beauty comes from with-in!” as she rolled her eyes at me.

Oh no she didn’t! “Yeah, that’s right girlie, “With-in” bottles, jars, and tubes, so sit down!” Kids these days! A bunch of hipsters!

Then I really let her have it! “You’re lucky you’re here girlfriend, cause you could have ended up in the chair of a real beauty butcher! I’ve seen pretty young things like you before, out for kicks, landing in the wrong hands and getting real messed up in this town!” I told her. “What’s in your ears Francie? Straight pins? Really smart girl! You could get green ear from that!” I scolded her.

“All the hip kids are doin’ it! But what would you know about hip?” She screeched as I pulled them out. “Look they’re all rusted!” Geesh, now I know why I never wanted kids! Anyway, that was just the beginning of our very long afternoon together. This kid fought me every step of the way!

Here’s a sampling; Pink Bubbles Beauty Bath for Face & Body, (“The water is too hot! You’re scalding me!”), Pink Bubbles Color Wash, (this girls skin was so faded out, but you couldn’t tell her that, she knew better) fresh hair-do, (“Ouch you’re pulling out my hair!”) re-rooted eyelashes, (“What are you doing? Are you crazy? You’re trying to blind me!”) Fresh make-up, (That’s not my shade! Let me do it!”) It went on like this all day!

Well, when it was all over, I was just exhausted! This girl was no Gidget and a real “pain in the tuchus” to boot to say the least. When she finally turned around and took a good long look in the mirror, all she could say was “Jeepers! I look amazing!” She turned to me and said “I guess you’re not so bad! But don’t go spillin’ all my business to my parents! All right? I’ll see ya around! Toodles!” And with that she skipped out of the spa doors.

“Yeah, Toodles to you Francie, Toodles to you!” I had to take the next day off just to recover!

Miss Francie challenged me to no end! Her services included; Pink Bubble’s Beauty Bath for Face & Body, hair wash, set and re-styling, facial color-wash, repainting of brows and lips and a complete eyelash re-root. Though she fought me every step of the way, the results were amazing! To myself, as well as a surprised and I’m sure very grateful teen girl!

Christie – A Real Head Turner!

Let’s be frank ladies. There’s only so long you should go between beauty appointments! I’m all for being thrifty but sometimes you just gotta face the facts. You need a professional! Take Christie for example, she’d completely let herself go. Years of wearing no make-up, boxed hair color and at home haircuts had taken their toll on her good looks. She’d become the type of gal you have to look twice at on the street, because you couldn’t believe it the first time!

I don’t know what’s going on with that a huge patch of melted hair in the back. Looks like someone knocked her in the back of the head with a hot skillet! Which could be the case as she doesn’t even remember how it happened. Anyway, it all just had to come off! Christie was tired of short hair, so she selected a lovely swirl hairdo in a soft peachy-pink tone. We finished it with a bright pink hair ribbon. Took twenty years off her!

She requested and was given new lashes and of course needed eyebrow and lip color as well. We even added a highlight to her dark brown eyes to give them that extra sparkle.

The always helpful Beatrice from our gift shop, (who works on commission) brought her a tray of beautiful earrings to select from. She chose a simple pair of silver hoops.

I swear you would never believe it was the same girl! See what a date with your stylist can do girls! The investment in yourself can really pay off. Christie’s back on the street and is still turning heads, but this time for all the right reasons!

Christie treated herself to our Pink Bubble’s Beauty Bath for Face & Body. She had a complete re-root which included a cut, set and style. Her lashes were re-rooted as well. Her eyebrows and lips were re-painted and highlights added to her pupils. She is wearing a lovely pair of silver hoops to address previous “at home” ear piercings. Thanks again to the ever helpful Beatrice!

A Mod British Bird Takes Flight!

This groovy chick, complete with British accent, recently dropped into the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa. She asked my receptionist Vera if there was an opening. Vera said she’d check, but if there wasn’t she’d probably at least be able to squeeze her in for an estimate! How rude Vera has become lately! She’s going to really have to work on her international relations.

Well, of course you know there’s always room for one more here at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa! So she led her to my chair and again, dear Vera, who often speaks before thinking and obviously was having a bad day, offered to pray for her, which I must again admit was not the opportune moment for such an intervention. My new client asked me what she meant by that, thinking quickly, I assured her Vera was just a very religious woman and does that with everybody. “It’s her way of meeting people!” I told her. I should really think about relocating Vera from the front. Perhaps she’s better suited for The Pink Bubbles Fashion Boutique located conveniently at the rear of the spa!

My new client told me her name was Stacey and “she loved being a fashion model!”

“A fashion model?” I thought. Now I’m not saying she looked bad, but I think it’s very likely a mortician may have dropped her off for some work. I swear I saw a couple of vultures sitting on the power lines across the street. And trust me, they know!

Well, what a difference a day at the Pink Bubbles Doll Spa makes! She required many of my special services and I have to admit it, this one was a dramatic make-over!

Now, Stacey can actually get away with telling the world of her modeling adventures and everyone will be more likely to believe her! No more hanging out with the vultures Stacey, you’re now a truly beautiful British Bird!
